Vibo Valentia has its roots first in the Greek and then the Roman civilisations. The castle from the Angevin ara, with its characteristic boat shape, dominates the whole city. Lying over an ancient acropolis, it has imposing cylindrical towers and ramparts with buttresses, and houses the Archaeological Museum inside it. The inland is hilly and rich of silver firs, beeches and cerrises. The rare fern Woodwardia radicans and the black woodpecker live here. |
