Of the Marche's five principal towns, Urbino is perhabs the most interesting for the traveller. This jewel of renaissance city remains little changed from the days when Duke Federico of Montefeltro set up his celebrated court here in the second half of the 15th century. The Ducale palace represents an architectonic masterpiece with no equals. In Urbino you can visit the native house, and some works of the great Raffaello and other works by Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, and many others. In the surroundings, Acqualagna is famous for the truffle fairs held in February, August,October and November. |
