The Sulcis towns are either set on the plain, at the foot of the vast mountain range, near the coast or sometimes in wide valleys. The mineral rich Sulcis attracted the ancient Phoenicians traders and navigators, who fonded and established important ports along the coast. Portoscuso was fonded in the 17th century after the construction of the beautiful tower in dark trachyte stone and the tonnara by the Spanish. In May, one can watch the cruel but impressive rite of mattanza (tuna massacre) - a centuries old slaughter. Sant'Anna is a small beautiful town with Nuragic origins. |
