During a cruise in the Medirerranean sea, the Aga Khan Karim IV fell in love with this then solitary corner of the island and founded the Consortium of the Emerald Coast. The Emerald coast is the realm of granite rocks afloat in the green thickets of cist, lentisk, juniper and wild olive, with wonderful emerald beaches lapped by a sea of brilliant colours, embracing headlands and rocky islets. The best known centre is Porto Cervo so called because of the many branches in the bay, like the horns of a deer (cervo). In front of the famous Liscia Ruja beach there are the solitary isles of Mortorio. Beyond the greens of the Pevero Golf Club, there is Cala di Volpe another impressive bay formed by the Capriccioli headland, with various beaches and the extraordinary beautiful hotel. The Emeral coast has captured the hearts of the international jet set. |
