Etna is the highest mountain in Sicily and the highest volcano in Europe. The territoty surrounding the volcano constitutes the Etna Park. The mountainside slopes are very attractive, with woods and pine trees interrupted at certain points by lava flows; whereas towards the peak of the mountain, the woods and pastures alternate with desolate fields of lava, to reach an almost lunar landscape. The Etna park (58.000 hectares) offers a great choice of excursions (on foot, by all-terrain vehicles or cableway) that permit the visitor to reach the crater of Etna. |
