Sciacca is a town of thermal springs which are among the best in Italy. As a matter of fact, arriving in Sciacca from Agrigento you see first of all the imposing mass of the Mount Kronio, its peak covered by a pine wood, and its white bathing resort. Near Sciacca there is the famous seaside resort of Eraclea Minoa. Eraclea is also an important archaeological site where excavations have brought to light Hellenistic, Roman, and Arabic remains. The theatre, almost entirely in extremely friable rocks of marl-stone, looks towards the sea, as is the rule in nearly all the Sicilian coastal theatres. This coast inspired great artists such as Luigi Pirandello and Leonardo Sciascia. |
