This tourist district includes the large basin crossed by the river Sarca and bounded to the south by the northern shores of Lake Garda, Valle di Ledro linking Upper Garda to the Valli Giudicarie and the area on the foot of the eastern side of Monte Bondone. The main feature of Upper Garda is its climate, which is typically Mediterranean, with a mild temperature also in winter. The landscape is characterized by olive trees, citrus trees, holm oaks, palms and oleanders. The main centre of attraction is the lake, the ideal setting for sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts. On its shores, between Riva and Torbole, there are also beaches equipped for bathing. Upper Garda has become one of the favourite destinations for free climbers, as the steep walls along the lake and near Arco are splendid training grounds for free climbing ascents. This is the area of an indigenous grapevine called nosiola, which produces the grapes for the famous Vin Santo. |
