The interior of Gallura is a vast territory where the dominant landscape motifs are the granite plateaux, with the cork-oak trees, the scattered farms and the shepherds shelters inside the carved rock grottoes. Tempio Pausania is the historical capital of Gallura. It boasts not only a beautiful position at the foot of the Limbara range but also a pretty old centre, with typical granite houses. It was a Nuragic centre, where the Romans later established themselves calling it Gemellae. This area is the home country of Vermentino, one of the most appreciated wines in Sardinia. |
