Leonardo Sciascia described Noto using these words: Garden of stone, city of gold, city of comedy, baroque city,….Noto. Situated at about 30 km from Syracuse, Noto dominates the valley of the river Asinaro. On the right of the river Anapo you will find Palazzo Acreide, a beautiful town founded in 664 BC. Its most famous buildings are the Church of San Paolo, the Annunziata church, and the ancient theatre. Finally, in the nearby country area of Santicello, there are the rock sculptures which have become famous with the name of santoni. |
