In the centre of Valtellina, Sondrio is a small city, but with an indefinable charm resulting from the symbiosis between buildings of different styles and periods. There are many shops selling antiques and articles in wrought iron, while the palate tingles at the sight of the typical products on sale at the butchers and well-supplied delicatessen and wine stores. On Wednesday and Saturday, you can lose yourselves in the feast of colours and flavours of the market held in the Garberia district. On the very edge of the city, a wide road leads up a steep slope cloaked with vineyards and thence into the Valmalenco. This is an ideal place to practice rock-climbing and skiing. In the restaurants guests can taste bresaola, mushrooms and various types of game, accompanied by excellent wines such as the Sassella or Grumello. |
