Piacenza stands betwen the Po and the Ligurian Apennines. Piacenza is almost entirely red brick and may seem at first sight rather austere, but in fact the visitor soon notice how attractive and friendly it really is. In the ancient medieval city where the streets cross at right angles, the visitor can admire the magnificent Duomo built in Romanesque style around the 12th and 13th centuries, the gothic Palazzo del Comune, and equestrian statues of the Farnese in Piazza dei Cavalli. The hill region which stretches around Piacenza is a magnificent place for outings and holidays. |
