Parma stands in the western edge of the Po valley on the via Emilia. The city still has the air and atmosphere of a small capital. The yellow of its palaces which gives its sunny, elegant appearence, was imported by the French artists who had followed Napoleon's wife Marie Louise, who governed her Grand Duchy from Parma just 200 years ago. In the Galleria Nazionale there are paintings of Correggio, Tiepolo, Beato Angelico, Canaletto, and Leonardo Da Vinci. At Busseto, the most important village in the area, Giuseppe Verdi attended the local school and refined his musical talent. At Busseto everything from the squares to the monuments and hotels remind us of Verdi. The gastronomic specialty is the genuine culatello di Zibello. |
