Pantelleria is to be found in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, closer to the Tunisian coast than to that of Italy. Here the wild vegetation consists of Mediterranean maquis and steppe, rosemary, woodland, and hundreds of species of plants. There are also numerous thermal springs and the stufe calde giving off hot fumes. At Cala Levante and Cala Tramontana you see the most beautiful sea of the whole island. The enchanting landscape, the small bays and solitary beaches leave their visitors with absolutely unforgettable memories. Here you can also find the rare black coral. Most of the grapes produced by the wines are used for wine-making (the famous Moscato di Pantelleria). The local capers have become world-famous and provide a considerable source of income. |
