Nuoro is situated almost in the centre of Sardinia, on a mountain ridge that stretches towards the west. The old centre has the most interesting monuments, among which the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie. Another interesting place is the birthplace of the writer Grazia Deledda, Nobel Prize winner for literature, among the narrow streets of the old district of Santu Pedru. From Nuoro it is easy to reach Mamoiada, a town known for its Carnival and the typical masks called mamuthones and issocadores. |
