The area environment is a gentle one with a mild climate and the rare good fortune to contain within its towns a complex and interesting variety of natural contryside. For example, in the north east you can find the evocative lunar landscape called delle Crete (clays). As for food and wine, with ever increasing vigour, the flag-bearer is the renowed red wine: Brunello di Montalcino. The territory surrounding the Commune of Pienza forms part of the artistic, natural and cultural Park of the Val d'Orcia. Rapolano terme is an important thermal resort. Its spa centre is famous for the natural therapeutic properties of the sulphurous water. |
