All but treeless, the heigths of the Marmilla have for centuries been the centre of cereal growing in Sardinia, and it has very good grazing too, from where it gets its name (Marmilla=udder). The north of the region is overlooked by the Giara of Gersturi landscape, a flat volcanic plateau, at one time defended by a surrounding circle of nuraghe and now populated by hundreds of small wild horses, known all over the world, that wander free among the water-meadows and corn woods. The town of Dolianova is famous for its wine and grape production and its excellent oil. |
