A land I'd call one of the most beautiful in the world wrote Alessandro Manzoni in the first drafting of his novel. He was talking about Lecco, the large village tied to memories of his early years, that he chose as the scene for the heroes of the Promessi Sposi. Things have changed since Manzonian times: the slowly growing great village has now become a real city, however the original framework has remained the same as it is in the fashinating beginning of the novel, the spectacle of Lecco, the poetry of Lecco. The cuisine in the area of Lecco is simple, genuine, and delicious, thanks to the presence of that prized ingredient represented by the cheese, with the addition of salamis, mushrooms, game, and fish from the lake. |
