Following the ancient Roman road called via Emilia the visitor reaches San Lazzaro di Savena - site of the splendid Villa Boncompagni. Some 20 km further along, there is the spa town of Castel San Pietro, dominated by the tower over what was the town gate. A little away on, turn right at sign of Dozza and follow the road as it climbs into the rolling hills to the pictoresque town of Dozza itself, the walls of its old houses enlivened with paintings by contemporary artists and towered over by its mighty fortress. Finally, the itinerary reaches Imola with its admirable fortress designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, Palazzo Tozzoni with its original furnishing and other monuments. |
