Ferrara is at the centre of a rich agricultural area only a short distance from the Delta Po. It is one of the major Italian cities of art, characterized by preserved medieval buildings and by magnificent Renaissance architecture. In the mid-nineties the city centre was declared a World Heritage Centre by UNESCO. Some manifestations: Festival of the Buskers in August, Season of the “Chamber Orchestra of Europe” in May and October, the carnival parade with allegorical masks and floats in February. A point of curiosity: Ferrara is the cycling capital of Italy. All you have to do to get about the centre is to hire a bicycle and off you go! |
