Enna is in a position of spendid isolation: it is the highest provincial capital in Italy (alt. 940 mt), in a beautiful and unusual location. Archaeological remains attest that the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Behind the baroque Duomo is the Alessi Museum, which contains the Treasures of the Duomo, consisting in precious ornaments and sacred objects including the splendid gold crown of the Virgin. Leaving Enna in a S direction, you reach Lake Pergusa, which is of naturalistic interest because of its flora and fauna. Here there is also a famous autodrome. |
