Chieti is an important art town which rises in a splendid panoramic position. It was a Roman settlement but, during the centuries the town saw many conquests from the Visigoths, King Pepin, the Swabians and the Bourbons in the 19th century. In Piazza dei Templi Romani there are the ruins of three little temples, the Roman theatre and the baths. The National Museum of Antiques houses the most important archaeological collection in Abruzzo. In the surroundings there are several characteristic villages such as Guardiagrele that is world-renowned for wrought iron handicraft. Since medieval times, Lanciano is famous for the production of woollen and silk material, leather and gold . |
