In this area there are ancient localities of great artistic and cultural value such as Bassano del Grappa, Marostica and Breganze. Bassano is universally known for its Ponte Vecchio which was designed by A. Palladio. The bridge was made familiar to Italians by a famous song of the alpine troops. Bassano most famous products are its unique pottery and the grappa, a subject of never-ending, learned debate, for which the Nardini shop, next to the Ponte Vecchio, is the undisputed forum. The small town of Marostica is renowed for the chess game played on the gigantic chessboard in Piazza Castello with living pieces. The area is also renowed for the production of high -quality cherries. Breganze is an important wine-producing centre.
