Ancona is the capital of the Marche: an important sea port city in east Europe. As a matter of fact, Ancona is the Marche's main ferry port with boats to ex-Yugoslavia, Greece and Turkey. Its Riviera has amazing seaside sceneries and long golden sandy beaches interruped only by the promontory of Monte Cornero, a splendid natural balcony over the Adriatic sea. In June it helds the international fishing fair. On the southern slopes, the town of Numana is to be found, an attractive resort with a well-equipped tourist harbour, only one km away from Sirolo, which stands on a cliff with a sheer drop overlooking the sea. It is possible to reach by boat two rocky islets rising out of the sea, called the Two Sisters. Senigallia has been one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Adriatic coast since 1853. It has been awarded with the prestigious Blue Flag of the Foundation for Enviromental Education in Europe. |
