Near Agrigento, in the upper Naro valley, on the south slopes of the Serra Bardaro, you will find Canicattì whose name comes from the Arabic al-Qatah. At Racalmuto the writer Leonardo Sciascia was born and buried. Racalmuto is the oldest settlement in this territory and was a hamlet in the Castelvecchio area that was built under the Arabs. The inland is mostly agricultural with a large production of olives, grapes, strawberries, citrus fruits, and almonds. |
